A Prayer Before Leading God's People in Worship

Lord Jesus Christ, Chief Shepherd,

    Minister to me as I minister Your grace
May I lead your people with grace and humility
    As the foremost of sinners and a man under authority
May I boldly speak Your truth
    With Your heart of tender compassion

May Your Word not return empty
    But accomplish Your life-giving purposes

Lord Jesus Christ, Head of the Body,
    Make us into Your new humanity
May our worship be buoyed by Your Spirit
    And directed by Your Word
May we be a people of uncomplicated obedience
   And fearless love
May we be a window on earth
    For the light of the kingdom of heaven

Lord Jesus Christ,
May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
    be acceptable in your sight,
    O Lord, my rock and my redeemer
