Scripture Reading: Psalm 56

Reflection
Our God is compassionate and gracious, abounding in steadfast love. When we suffer, He does not simply sit distant upon His throne. He is intimately close to us. He hears our sighs. He knows our worries and weeps with us in our tears.

All of this is possible because of Jesus Christ. God drew near to us, became one of us, in Jesus. He was a man of sorrows, familiar with grief. He experienced the frailty of flesh. Jesus suffered for us, but He also suffered as one of us. Even now, in resurrected glory, the body of Jesus still bears the scars of the cross.

This means that we can come to our God in all our humanity. We can express our worries and pains to Him. More than that, we can trust Him as a fellow-sufferer. He will not cast us off in our hour of distress. Instead, He will bring us through it into the life of eternity.

A Prayer for Those Facing Material Loss
Father,
We are mindful of the many who face the loss of possessions and livelihoods. Sustain them as they are plunged into uncertainty about the future. Give them their daily bread, both physically and spiritually. Be an advocate and provider for them, and help us to join in this calling in Jesus Christ, our Lord, in whose name we pray.
AMEN
